Volunteer with us
A living land. Willing hands. Something worth growing together.
Awakeland is a reforestation project and retreat centre in the foothills of the Monchique mountains,
We’re looking for people who love the land, aren’t afraid of honest work, and want to contribute something real while they’re here.
If you feel called to dig, plant, tend and belong — we’d love to have you.
What you might do here
No two days at Awakeland look the same. While much of the work is rooted in the land itself — planting, tending, nurturing trees — a living place needs many kinds of hands. Depending on what’s needed and what you bring, you might also find yourself:
- Helping in the kitchen, preparing meals with care
- Tidying and caring for the spaces and rooms
- Carpentry or general maintenance
- Marketing and social media
What to bring
The Algarve can surprise you — warm days, cool nights, and the occasional downpour. Packing well means you’ll be comfortable no matter what the land asks of you.
- Clothes for warm days and cooler evenings
- Waterproof layers for rainy weather
- Warm bedding — a good sleeping bag and pillow (nights in Monchique can be chilly)
- Sturdy waterproof boots with a firm sole for working the land
- Tough gardening gloves
- Eco-friendly body products and toothpaste
During warmer months, add sunscreen, a hat, and mosquito repellent to your bag.
A note on our ecological showers and toilets
Our water systems are living ones — shower water flows directly back into the land, feeding the roots and fruits of the trees you’ll be helping to grow. We ask that you bring only eco-certified body products to keep this cycle clean and unbroken. It’s a small thing, and an important one.
Come ready to work and be changed a little by a piece of land that’s alive and thriving.
