REFORESTATION
REFORESTATION & LAND REGENERATION
NATURE IS OUR FUNDAMENTAL MEDITATION
Awakeland Portugal’s landscape is unique and its natural equilibrium is maintained and potentiated through innovative, non-invasive permaculture and biodynamic agriculture.
We work with the principles of sustainable agriculture and support local species, aiming to live as closely to the earth as possible. At Awakeland Portugal, in harmony with nature, we root ourselves and manifest our highest being.

Awakeland Portugal was born in a land of ancient rituals, in the foothills of the powerful Monchique Mountains, and with a majestic view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Nestled between the ocean and the mountains, it is a refuge of peace for meditation in nature.
A space of 21 hectares, specifically chosen to help the earth recuperate from the wounds that the massive forest fires of 2003 and 2016 left in their wakes.
Awakeland Portugal is a place where we care for Mother Earth as much as she cares for us...

We are conveniently located a 20 min distance from various cities (Portimão, Lagos and Monchique), and 15 minutes from the beaches of Alvor in Portimão and Meia Praia in Lagos.
A proximity to the Atlantic with a breeze nuanced with the Mediterranean Sea offers us an agreeable and easygoing climate. Normally, in the summer the maximum heat is around 30ºC and minimum around 20ºC. In winter, the temperature tends to swing between 8ºC minimum and 17ºC maximum.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND REFORESTATION

The “Awakeland Portugal Team” shares a dream that inspires us daily:
Take care of mother nature, plant trees and transform the land of Awakeland Portugal into a garden.
From this dream and inspiration, a program was born, which began by defining the various plantation zones and the design of our “garden”. The zone of the main house and its surroundings (nora, tank etc.), the zones of the peaks and frontiers, the valley zones and the lakes.

We rolled up our sleeves and started by planting 250 fruit trees of 140 different species in the zone of the main house and its surroundings. Interlaced between these trees, and visible today are diverse species of shrubs and bushes and vegetables to feed ourselves and those who come to visit.

When we were all ready to start executing our tree-planting mission in the remaining zones, in September 2016 we were invaded by a fire that consumed 80% of the land’s total vegetation. An event that only made our determination greater, as well as that of our friends all around the world.

The fire’s passage opened a new perspective and a new vision for what we wanted to develop. The dramatic loss of the vegetation gave us new eyes, allowing us to better define and mark primordial water capture zones as well as excellent parts of the peaks and frontiers, in which we have made terraces with the sole objective to plant tour previously planned trees on.

Today, these primordial water caption zones have given rise to 3 new lakes (adding to the 2 that already existed), and the terraces are currently flourishing with around 21,000 new trees: medronhos, carob, almond, plum, apricot, fig and many more. The valley zones are presently covered by green grass, which contributes to the hydration of the landscape and protection of the ecosystem.

Our vision is to keep on giving life to this land, in the creation and conception of more projects, plantation of trees and all types of vegetation, and through this establish a relationship of balance and exchange with Mother Earth!
